Nationwide: Annual Nationwide Retirement Institute Survey

Posted on March 15, 2018

New research from Nationwide finds that only 25 percent of women 50 and older, who are retired or plan to retire in the next 10 years, say life is, or they expect it to be, better in retirement than before retirement, down from 31 percent last year. Further, 26 percent expect life to be worse in retirement. Worries about Social Security and health care costs are factors contributing to pessimistic outlooks. The survey shows that, on average, women expect Social Security to pay 58 percent of all their expenses in retirement, and 18 percent expect it to pay all of their expenses. Three in four women also believe that Social Security will run out of funding during their lifetimes.
