STATEMENT OF THE INSURED RETIREMENT INSTITUTE REGARDING SEN. JOHNNY ISAKSON DECISION TO LEAVE THE SENATE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) was saddened to hear that Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) announced he will leave the Senate at the end of the year due to the health challenges he has so bravely and courageously faced as he continued to serve the people of Georgia and our nation.

“Senator Isakson’s leadership and dedication to ensuring that all Americans will have the opportunities to save for and the information they will need to enjoy a secure retirement will be truly missed” said Wayne Chopus, president and CEO of IRI. “His strong voice and long legacy of bipartisan legislative accomplishments represents a demonstration of the respect and admiration all his colleagues have for  him.”

In 2015, IRI awarded its Champion of Retirement Security Award to Senator Isakson in recognition of his commitment and leadership on retirement security issues. Senator Isakson had authored the Lifetime Income Disclosure Act, which will provide workers with a better understanding of their savings options and help them to make more informed decisions about their plans for retirement.

Most recently, Senator Isakson continued to champion the cause of bolstering America’s retirement security by advocating for the Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act, a bipartisan comprehensive bill to strengthen and enhance retirement security. This bill has now evolved into the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act (SECURE Act).
