Action Follows IRI Briefing at August NSCL Insurance Task Force Meeting

NCSL SECURE Act Letter

WASHINGTON, D.C. --
The National Conference of State Legislators (NSCL) wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) urging enactment of the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act today.

Last month, IRI Chief Government and Political Affairs Officer Paul Richman briefed the NCSL Insurance Task Force that a looming U.S. retirement crisis requires a national response to ensure American workers have a financially and dignified retirement.

Following Richman’s presentation, the Task Force voted to issue a recommendation to the NSCL executive committee to support passage of the SECURE Act.

“We are grateful to the NSCL Insurance Task Force and NCSL Executive Director Tim Storey for adding an important voice to the to the list of SECURE Act supporters,” Richman said. “We remain confident that the benefit of enhancing the retirement security for millions more American workers will overcome the extremely limited Senate opposition and we’ll see the SECURE Act enacted into law soon.”
