New Hire at IRI

The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) announced today that Dan Zielinski has joined the organization as vice president, strategic communications.

Zielinski is a veteran public affairs and media relations professional in a career spanning government, a public relations firm and trade associations.

“We are excited that Dan is joining IRI at a critical juncture for the retirement income industry,” said Cathy Weatherford, IRI president and CEO. “Dan’s experience will help us to create an integrated, strategic communications effort to strengthen the industry’s voice on urgent retirement security issues.”

Zielinski served with the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association where he created and implemented strategic communications and outreach plans to advance public policy goals, respond to crises, and project the industry’s commitment to motorist safety and consumer education.

Prior to his tire industry role, Zielinski worked for APCO Worldwide, a major strategic communications firm in Washington, DC where he served as a spokesman for a major health care coalition seeking to expand insurance coverage for older Americans and implemented media strategies to address frivolous lawsuits.

Earlier, Zielinski directed media relations for the American Insurance Association (AIA), a leading property casualty trade association. At AIA, he created and implemented a strategic public affairs and media effort that catapulted the association’s brand as a major financial services powerhouse during debate on the most significant modernization of financial services law since the Great Depression.

Zielinski began his Washington, DC, career as a press secretary to two Long Island, New York Members of Congress.
