WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) announced today that National Retirement Planning Week will be held March 30 – April 3, 2020. The week is a coordinated effort led by IRI to educate consumers on the importance of appropriately planning for a financially secure retirement.

IRI is the leading retirement security advocate and promotes policies that can increase worker access to employer-provided retirement plans; improve current defined contribution retirement plans and; allow employer-provided retirement plans to access products that can provide guaranteed lifetime income to retirees, among others.

“Consumer education is a critical element to retirement planning,” said Wayne Chopus, IRI president and CEO. “National Retirement Planning Week is a good time to take stock of your financial situation, talk to a financial advisor and make a plan that can put you on a path to a financially sound and dignified retirement.”

IRI and other industry survey data show that too few Americans are neither saving adequately for retirement nor do they have a plan to convert savings they do have into monthly income.

“Accumulating adequate retirement savings is the first important step,” Chopus said. “But equally important is developing a plan that incorporates protected lifetime income strategies so retirees won’t outlive their savings. This is fundamental information that our industry is committed to sharing not only during National Retirement Planning Week but throughout the year.”
