Group Urges Congress to Act Quickly on the Next Measure

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) applauded Congress and the president for enacting additional legislation to safeguard Americans from the health threat of the COVID-19 virus. The latest measure will provide aid to workers and businesses who suffer economically from the effects of social distancing policies and mandatory closings to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“We applaud the President and Congress for actions taken to protect Americans and to begin erecting a safety net to help those who may lose their jobs as many day-to-day business and leisure activities are curtailed or halted to slow the spread of this virus,” said Wayne Chopus, IRI president and CEO.

The Trump Administration and Congress enacted two bills into law to provide resources to expand virus testing and medical resources and to provide broad relief to workers and businesses to ease financial burdens over how workers will pay their bills as economic activity dramatically slows. A third measure is already under consideration.

“IRI members serve thousands of businesses and millions of consumers whom we help to plan for a secure financial retirement,” Chopus said. “During this very challenging time, our industry will continue to serve its customers as they navigate uncertainty posed by this health and economic crisis. We urge our government to take additional actions to safeguard Americans from this unprecedented emergency so that when we emerge from the crisis in our present, we will do so with renewed confidence in our future .”
