HOUSE COMMITTEE LOOKS TOWARD IMPROVING RETIREMENT SECURITY FOR AMERICA’S WORKERS

Posted on February 6, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Insured Retirement Institute issued a statement today by Wayne Chopus, IRI president and CEO on the House Ways and Means Committee hearing “Improving Retirement Security for America’s Workers.”

“The House Ways and Means Committee today is taking the first step in the new Congress to address the looming retirement crisis facing America. The hearing will reinforce the notion that Americans are not sufficiently saving for retirement often because they lack access to a workplace retirement program or lack retirement plan options to better protect and preserve those savings to last throughout their retirement years.

IRI urges the Committee to accelerate consideration of bipartisan, comprehensive retirement security legislation that, among other measures, reduces barriers for small businesses to offer retirement plans; increases access to guaranteed lifetime income products and; provides consumers with an illustration of how much monthly income their accumulated savings in retirement accounts may generate.

IRI looks forward to working with the Members of Congress who champion retirement security  issues to enact long-overdue and much-needed legislation to expand access to retirement savings opportunities and extend greater access to lifetime income products to all Americans.”
